Driver's Ed for E-Bikes & E-Scooters

Helping teens ride smarter, safer, and more confidently.

E-bikes and scooters are giving kids a new kind of freedom, the same freedom a lot of us remember from riding off on our first bike. But these rides are faster, heavier, and a lot more powerful than what we grew up on, and most kids are figuring it out as they go.

Why I Built This

Laura and her son
Me and my son

My son wanted an e-scooter, and my husband and I went looking for something we couldn't find anywhere: a driver's ed course for e-bikes and scooters.

Kids take driver's ed before they get behind the wheel of a car. They learn the rules, practice good judgment, and understand what's expected of them. But e-bikes and scooters can hit 20-plus miles an hour around cars and pedestrians, and most kids never get that kind of training.

At the same time, I kept seeing more stories about teens getting hurt, and I kept hearing from parents who felt nervous letting their kid ride off on their own, not because they wanted to say no, but because they weren't sure their kid was ready.

So I built the course I wished existed for my own son.

Built by Someone Who Knows How Kids Learn

Teen Rider Academy was built by Laura St. Martin, a Massachusetts educator with more than 25 years of experience working with kids and teens. She's spent her career building learning experiences young people actually stick with, including social learning lessons that were later turned into animated programs for kids and teens.

The goal was simple: build something teens would actually finish. Not a lecture. Not a list of rules to memorize. Something that helps them understand why the choices actually matter.

Our Goal

We want kids outside. Exploring, being active, spending time with friends, and getting a taste of real independence.

We also want them to have the judgment to make good calls when a parent isn't standing right there. That's what this course is for.
